It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but I’ve finally had some downtime being on winter break. My first semester of grad school was very demanding and kept me quite busy, so this break has been a real treat–spending time … Continue reading
I’m really excited about this summer peach salsa! Not only was it super simple to make, it was delicious too! Usually I’m a recipe follower–dependent on my shopping list and measuring cups–but this time I decided to wing it. My fridge is full of Jersey peaches after my trip to the local farmer’s market earlier this week. The rest of the ingredients are all seasonal items I usually have on hand, but could be easily substituted for other salsa favorites of your choosing.
My summer salsa was made with:
- Yellow peaches
- Green peppers
- Yellow onions
- Salt & pepper
I didn’t include measurements because like I said, I decided to wing it this time–and you should too! Next time I think I’ll add avocado and mangos to the mix! What seasonal ingredients would make up your perfect summer salsa?
Happy dipping : )

Wouldn’t it be fun to act like a little girl again and throw a tea party for you and your friends to enjoy? I thought so to! Here’s a few ideas for throwing a sophisticated (and easy!) tea party to bring out everyone’s inner girly girl:
The Top T’s for a Traditional Tea Party:
1. Tea Cups
I love the vintage, mismatch look of these tea cups from Etsy.com ($37 for a set of 3 cups & saucers)
2. Table Decor
Keep your centerpiece in theme with the party by using a teapot in place of a vase for the flowers.
3. Tea Sandwiches
These ham, brie and apple tea sandwiches by FoodNetwork.com are the perfect lunchtime snack to serve at your tea party. Bonus: They’re not only tasty, but so easy to make too!
4. Tasty Treats
What’s a party without treats? My top pick for a traditional tea party is macaroons. The best part: you can color coordinate them with your party’s color theme.
North Jersey locals – check out the macaroons at Petite Paris in Montclair.
And of course, the essential element to any tea party is the tea. With a wide variety of options available today when picking a type of tea for your party, try to stick to those with the best health benefits. Read below for more information on which teas to choose and why.
The Health Benefits of Drinking Tea
Tea Type: Choose black, green, white, or oolong teas (All which are made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. Herbal brews, like chamomile and peppermint are not and therefore do not reap the same health benefits.) Health Benefits: Cancer prevention (green tea), brain benefits (black & green tea) and heart help (green tea)
This holiday season I’ve been feeling particularly crafty. I decided to put my craft craving to use and hand-make a few of my Christmas presents this year. (A fun little project that’s cost-effective too!) I’ve always admired “recipes in a jar” when I’ve seen them at farmers markets or specialty food stores…and who doesn’t love a little baking around the holidays? As for choosing which recipe to make, well that was a no-brainer…everyone loves chocolate chip cookies!!
What you’ll need for each “recipe in a jar” gift:
- a mason jar
- flour (2 cups)
- baking soda (3/4 teaspoon)
- semi-sweet chocolate chips (1 & 1/2 cups)
- brown sugar (1/2 cup – packed)
- pure cane granulated sugar (1/2 cup)
*Note: After adding the flour it may seem like there isn’t going to be enough room in the jar for all of the ingredients, but don’t worry there is! After adding chocolate chips make sure to pack down on top of flour to free up more space in the jar. Make sure to pack down brown sugar layer as well. Contents should fill up to the brim, but fit perfectly inside your jar.
Optional items for decorating your jar:
- fabric (can be found in the sewing section of your local craft store)
- thin ribbon (also can be found at your local craft store)
- measuring spoons (I found these cute heart-shaped spoons on amazon.com)
Don’t forget to add the directions! (I printed mine on festive, holiday-themed card stock found at my local craft store.)
Easy “Copy & Paste” Directions:
Preheat oven to 375° F. Beat ¾ cup (1½ sticks) softened butter or margarine, 1 large egg and ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until blended. Add cookie mix. Mix well. Drop dough by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool completely. Enjoy! (Makes about 2 dozen cookies.)
Bonus Recipe in a Jar: Adult Hot Cocoa – The Perfect Mix
This “recipe in a jar” is so easy to make! Just fill half of your jar with hot cocoa mix (I used Ghiradelli Double Chocolate Premium Hot Cocoa mix), fill the rest with mini marshmallows, and include a mini bottle of Baileys Irish Cream with your jar to make it an adult version of hot cocoa. You can also substitute your mini bottle of Baileys Irish Cream with a mini bottle of Kahlua Coffee Cream if you prefer it. Print your directions according to the directions on the box of the hot cocoa mix.
Happy crafting, happy gift-giving & happy holidays!🙂
Mason jars are one of the hottest items today in the DIY world. You can find them incorporated into craft projects everywhere: restaurants, weddings & events, home decor…you can even find them in the bathroom! And if you think mason jars are just limited to holding your beverage, you are quite mistaken. Here are some of the creative ways that mason jars are being used today:
